A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way: Creating a Better Work-From-Home Community
Be Kind to Humankind Week: August 25–31, 2026
Sometimes the smallest act of kindness can completely change someone’s day.
A thoughtful message. A little patience. A sincere compliment. Taking the time to listen.
During Be Kind to Humankind Week, August 25–31, we’re reminded to be intentional about showing kindness to the people around us. The annual observance encourages people to practice compassion and look for simple ways to make a positive difference.
And while kindness is important everywhere, it can be especially meaningful in the work-from-home community.
Kindness Doesn’t Stop at the Office Door
Working remotely doesn’t mean we work alone.
Behind every chat, email, phone call, support ticket, and video meeting is a person.
Your coworker might be having a difficult morning. A customer may be frustrated because of something completely unrelated to you. A support representative may be handling dozens of requests at once.
We don’t always know what someone else is carrying.
That’s why choosing kindness matters.
Kindness in Customer Service
Customer service isn’t always easy.
There will be difficult conversations. There will be frustrated customers. There will be days when you’re tired and patience takes a little more effort.
But professionalism and kindness can exist together.
A calm tone, thoughtful response, and willingness to listen can help turn a difficult interaction into a better experience.
You don’t have to agree with someone to treat them with respect.
Kindness Toward Your Coworkers
Remote work can sometimes feel isolating.
Your coworkers may be miles away, and you may go an entire shift without actually speaking to another person face-to-face.
That makes small gestures even more valuable.
Send a coworker an encouraging message.
Congratulate someone on a success.
Share helpful information.
Thank someone who took the time to help you.
Celebrate another person’s accomplishments instead of comparing them to your own.
There’s room for everyone to succeed.
Kindness Toward Your Support Team
One of the easiest things to forget when you’re dealing with a problem is that the person helping you is a person too.
Whether you’re contacting technical support, a client support team, your Service Partner, or another resource, remember that the person on the other side is trying to help.
Be clear about the problem.
Be patient while they investigate.
Say thank you when they assist you.
Those small moments of professionalism and kindness can make everyone’s day better.
Five Simple Ways to Practice Kindness at Work
1. Give a Genuine Compliment
Notice someone’s hard work and tell them.
A simple “You’re doing a great job” can mean more than you realize.
2. Practice Patience
Before reacting to a frustrating message or difficult interaction, pause.
Give yourself a moment to respond instead of reacting emotionally.
3. Share What You Know
Did you figure out a helpful shortcut or learn something that could make someone else’s job easier?
Share it.
Knowledge becomes even more valuable when we help others succeed.
4. Say Thank You
Thank the person who answered your question.
Thank the coworker who helped you.
Thank the customer who was patient with you.
Gratitude costs nothing, but it can go a long way.
5. Check On Someone
Send a quick message to a coworker you haven’t heard from.
Ask how they’re doing.
Sometimes people don’t need advice—they simply need someone to notice them.
Kindness Builds Better Workplaces
A positive work environment isn’t created by one person.
It’s built through countless small interactions between people who choose to communicate respectfully, support one another, and assume good intentions.
Remote work doesn’t have to feel disconnected.
We can create communities where people feel appreciated, supported, and encouraged—even when we’re working from different homes and different cities.
Let’s Make Kindness Part of the Culture
Be Kind to Humankind Week may only last seven days, but kindness shouldn’t have an expiration date.
At Girlicity, we believe our community is stronger when we support one another.
So this week, let’s make an intentional effort to be a little more patient, a little more encouraging, and a little more willing to help.
Send the message.
Give the compliment.
Offer the help.
Say thank you.
Listen.
Because you never know how much that small act of kindness might mean to someone.
Let’s make kindness part of the way we work—not just something we celebrate once a year. 💜
