Finish the Year Strong: Small Steps to Reach Your Work Goals

31 October

The end of the year is approaching, and it’s a great time to pause, reflect on how far you’ve come, and decide what you want to accomplish before the year ends.

Maybe you’ve made progress toward your career goals. Perhaps you’ve faced a few setbacks, struggled to find the right opportunity, or realized that your current routine isn’t working as well as you’d hoped. Whatever your situation, there’s still time to make meaningful progress.

You don’t have to accomplish everything at once. Sometimes, the biggest changes begin with a few small, intentional steps.

At Girlicity, we believe that preparation, consistency, and a willingness to keep moving forward can make a difference in your work-from-home journey. Here are five ways to finish the year strong!

1. Reflect on How Far You’ve Come

Before setting new goals, take a moment to look back at what you’ve already accomplished.

It’s easy to focus on what hasn’t happened yet and overlook the progress you’ve made along the way. Maybe you’ve completed training, learned a new skill, improved your schedule, or become more confident in your work.

Ask yourself a few questions:

  • What have I accomplished this year?
  • What challenges have I learned from?
  • What habits have helped me succeed?
  • What would I like to do differently moving forward?

Recognizing your progress can help you identify what’s working and where you want to grow.

Remember, progress doesn’t always happen as quickly as we expect. Every step forward counts.

2. Set Realistic Goals for the Next Two Months

You don’t need a long list of resolutions to make the most of the rest of the year. Instead, choose two or three specific goals that are realistic for your current situation.

If you’re already working from home, your goals might include improving your time management, maintaining consistent performance, or exploring an additional client opportunity.

If you’re still looking for a remote position, you might focus on completing assessments, reviewing available opportunities, or preparing your computer and workspace.

Try turning a general goal into a specific action.

For example:

Instead of: “I want to find a work-from-home job.”

Try: “I will review available opportunities, check their requirements, and complete one application or enrollment step this week.”

A clear next step makes a goal easier to act on and helps you measure your progress.

3. Get Organized and Eliminate Distractions

A little organization can make your workday easier and more productive.

Take some time to review your workspace, calendar, and daily routine. Look for small changes that could help you stay focused and reduce unnecessary stress.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Organize your desk and keep essential supplies nearby.
  • Review your calendar and schedule important tasks.
  • Keep track of deadlines, training sessions, and appointments.
  • Limit distractions during scheduled work hours.
  • Make sure your computer and internet connection are ready for work.
  • Create a routine that allows time for work, breaks, and personal responsibilities.

You don’t need a perfect home office to be productive. What matters most is having a space and routine that support your responsibilities.

4. Invest in Yourself and Your Skills

Your professional growth doesn’t have to stop once you find a job.

Use the remaining weeks of the year to identify skills you’d like to strengthen. Communication, customer service, time management, problem-solving, and technology skills can all be valuable in remote work.

You can also review feedback you’ve received, revisit training materials, or become more familiar with the tools you use in your role.

If you’re exploring opportunities through Girlicity, take time to read the available client information and qualification requirements before enrolling. Understanding what’s expected can help you make an informed decision about which opportunity may be right for you.

Small investments in your skills today can help prepare you for opportunities tomorrow.

5. Don’t Let Setbacks Stop Your Progress

Not every plan works out the way we expect. An application may not lead to an offer, a training opportunity may be delayed, or personal responsibilities may interrupt your routine.

A setback can be frustrating, but it doesn’t have to determine what happens next.

When something doesn’t go as planned, take a moment to evaluate your options. Is there another opportunity to consider? Is there a skill you could improve? Is there a different approach that might work better?

Give yourself permission to adjust your plans when necessary.

Consistency doesn’t mean everything goes perfectly. It means continuing to take reasonable steps toward your goals, even when the path changes.

Make November and December Count

The final two months of the year can be busy, but they can also provide an opportunity to refocus and prepare for what’s ahead.

You don’t have to wait until January to make a change. You can start now by organizing your priorities, building better habits, learning something new, or taking one step toward a career goal.

If working from home is part of your plan, stay informed about available opportunities, review qualification requirements carefully, and make sure you understand the expectations before committing to a program.

And if you’re already working remotely, use this time to reflect on your progress and identify ways to continue growing.

Your Next Step Starts Today

As you look toward the end of the year, remember that meaningful progress doesn’t require a dramatic change overnight. It often comes from the small decisions you make consistently.

Choose one goal. Identify one action you can take this week. Then give yourself the opportunity to follow through.

You still have time to learn, grow, and make progress toward the future you want.
